Barcelona has shown great interest in midfielder Cesc Fabregas. Fabregas, who plays in the English Premier League with Arsenal, is wanted in a couple of different top notch teams. According to Guardiola, it will not be an easy negotiation, because Real Madrid is also interested in the young Catalan.

For the moment, defender and striker David Villa and Adriano are the new acquisitions at Barcelona.

Colorado went just 2-6 in Big 12 play last season and only managed one win in conference play to finish the season with a 3-9 overall record. It marked the fourth straight season where the Buffaloes finished under .500 on the year. That could all change in 2010, as the Buffaloes have 15 starters back for the upcoming season, including 10 on the offensive side of the ball. The Buffaloes have just two seasons left in the Big 12 before heading to the Pac-10 in 2012. Here is a quick breakdown of what the Buffaloes will send to the field in 2010, plus my prediction on where they will finish the year in the Big 12 North.

Offense:

It looks as though junior quarterback Tyler Hansen will be the opening day starter for the Buffaloes in 2010, with senior Cody Hawkins serving as the primary backup. Hansen started the final seven games for the Buffaloes in 2009, throwing for 1,440 yards with eight touchdowns to seven interceptions. You have to expect the numbers to improve for Hansen this season with pretty much the entire offense back from last year.

At running back the Buffaloes bring back junior Rodney Stewart, who finished fifth in the Big 12 last season with 804 yards. Stewart ran in nine touchdowns for the Buffaloes last season, and with more experience and improved play from the offensive line, I think we should also see Stewart’s numbers improve this season.

The Buffaloes bring back all three starters at the wide receiver positions, and they have one of the top talents in the Big 12 in senior Scotty McKinght, who led the for the Buffaloes with 79 catches for 893 yards and six touchdowns. The Buffaloes are also very high on junior tight end Ryan Deehan, and he should end up being one of the better tight ends in the Big 12 this season.

All five starters are back on the offensive line will be a big strength for the Buffaloes this season, and is one of the key reasons why I think so many of the other players on offense will put up bigger numbers this season. The top two players in this unit are senior left tackle Nate Solder and junior right guard Ryan Miller.

Defense:

Starting up front the Buffaloes have three starters back on the defensive line this season, as they return the starting tackle duo of sophomore Will Pericak and junior Curtis Cunningham, and also bring back senior defensive end Marquez Herrod. Look for sophomore Nick Kasa to start the season at the other defensive end spot.

At linebacker the Buffaloes only starter back is senior strong-side linebacker BJ Beatty. Senior Michael Sipili is expected to take over at the middle linebacker spot, while sophomore Jon Major is projected to take over at the open weak-side backer spot. The Buffaloes gave up 161 yards a game on the ground last season, and how well this unit plays will go a long way in that total dropping in 2010.

In the secondary the Buffaloes return  senior starting corners Jalil Brown and Jimmy Smith, and Smith figures to be one of the top corners in all of the Big 12 this season, but there isn’t much that separates the two. At safety look for sophomore Ray Polk to make his way into the starting lineup, as he should fit in nicely alongside returning junior strong safety Anthony Perkins.

Big 12 North Prediction – 3rd: I think we will see a much better team out of the Buffaloes in 2010, and I think this team is headed for their first winning season since going 7-6 in 2005. However I don’t think the Buffaloes will be able to pass Nebraska or Missouri in the North.
